Artist's Statement

I derive inspiration from the art of classical antiquity and the Renaissance to make art in a variety of media from colored pencil drawings to ceramic sculptures to computer generated work.  My work explores the human figure in combination with various supernatural elements.  Like the Renaissance movement, I seek to create a rebirth in art in the style of classical realism while using contemporary science fiction and mythology as my main subject matter.  I also draw a lot of inspiration from Japanese style and culture and often produce art in the style of Japanese anime.  I try to avoid using models or reference pictures in my work as much as possible in order to challenge myself to produce highly detailed, realistic art solely from imagination.  I believe this way I can create work that is more unique and bring new things into the world rather than reproducing something that I can see.
